Cherry's literary success is represented in several genres, including long and short fiction, poetry, and nonfiction that have appeared in a wide range of periodicals and in such prize anthologies as Best American Short Stories, The Pushcart Prize, and New Stories from the South. Some of her work has been translated into Latvian, Russian, Chinese, Lithuanian, Dutch, Swedish and Arabic.
Kelly Cherry is a former Eudora Welty Professor of English and Evjue-Bascom Professor in the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and has won many awards including the Pushcart Prize (1977); the National Endowment for the Arts fellowship (1980); and the PEN/Syndicated Fiction Award (1983).
